One of the great things about triking is how nice it is to have everything right at hand as you roll along. With a SeatSide mount, you can have all sorts of things close at hand. The Catrike SeatSide Mount lets you carry bags, water bottles, cameras, all sorts of things, right by your side. Snacks, phones, lip balm, you name it, now you can keep it all within reach while riding. This version of the SeatSide Mount for Catrikes attaches to the seat frame. We make other versions that attach to the main frame tube. We recommend this version of the mount for people that simply want a good sturdy place to mount things beside the seat. If you want maximum versatility in where things are located or need quick on/off removability, check out the main frame mounted version.
FAQ
1. How does it work?
Specially machined clamps attach to the seat frame. For Catrikes that don't fold, they go on the straight part under the seat between the main tube and where it bends up. On Catrikes that fold, a different set of clamps go on back of the seat near where the seat angle adjusts. A support tube comes out sideways and over to where the accessory mounting tube needs to be. The end of the support tube has a T clamp that holds the horizontal accessory mounting tube beside the seat. The accessory mounting tube is long enough to hold whatever you'd like.
2. I've seen ICE trikes with something similar. Is this like that?
The stock ICE side mount is vaguely similar, but it has a smaller accessory mounting area than the ones we make and is only adjustable left/right. On our mounts, everything is clamped, not welded, so you can adjust things up/down, left/right, and forward/back. The space provided to mount accessories is about 3 times as long. If you want to really customize it, you can shorten any of the tubes, or even substitute another of a different size. We make a version for ICE trikes, too, of course, in which case the mounts would be very similar. On the ICE trikes, the tube that you attach to is behind the seat, rather than under the seat, so how you get from there out to the side of the seat is a little different.
3. Which side does it go on?
Either, or both, it's up to you. If you have a folding Catrike, we make a double mount that does both sides with one mount and one set of seatback clamps. If you have a non folding Catrike, you have to use two separate single sided mounts to get one on each side.
4. Will this work with any bag?
Yes, the tube where the accessories mount is 7/8in (22.2mm) diameter, so pretty much anything designed to mount to a bike or to handlebars can attach there. If you ever need shims for your bag, let us know.
5. What can you put on it?
Anything that you can attach to a standard 7/8in (22.2mm, standard handlebar size) tube. Handlebar bags, water bottles, phones, things like that. The supplied accessory mounting tube is 11 inches (28cm) long, so you have lots of room. We have longer tubes if you really want to go crazy.
6. How much weight can it hold?
A lot, but obviously it has it's limits. We're saying 10lbs (4.5Kg) to be on the safe side. We do recommend that if you want to carry living things (like pets) that you do so carefully.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Installation is straightforward.
If you have a non folding Catrike, you first attach the (long) clamps to the seat frame under the seat. If you have a folding Catrike, you attach the (short) clamps behind the seat.
Next, you assemble the accessory mounting tube to the T clamp on the support tube.
You then slide the support arm into the clamps on the seat and adjust the system to the left/right, up/down, and forward/back position you'd like.
You're ready to install your accessories!
ADDITIONAL INFO
We include a user installed catchpost in case you want to use a handlebar bag that is designed to index to the handlebar stem on an upright bike. Some handlebar bags have a cable or an arm that is designed to catch on a handlebar stem to keep the bag from rotating down. The catchpost provides a place for that to connect.
We make a lot of tubes and clamps that are compatible with this system if you need to do customizations. Check out the Seatside Mount Hardware and Cockpit Mount Hardware pages for more information.
Clamps are CNC machined aluminum, anodized black, with all stainless fasteners. Tubes are black powder coated aluminum with removable black end caps.
Custom configured to fit all Catrikes (and possibly Musashis, haven't tested that yet).
The TerraCycle Dual Side Bag Attachment kit was all I needed to complete my side bag installation. I had a bit of confusion on the seat bar attachment, but figured it out. The included instructions need a few more photos. I'm happy with the mounting. I had to offset the mounting to the right an inch or so to allow for clearance of my battery. My battery mount also uses the TerraCycle hardware. Perfect for my Catrike Dumont.
I purchased the double side mount for my Catrike Max and was disappointed. It is a little too narrow, in my opinion, for the wider seat of the Max, with less then an inch clearance on each side.
This is seat side mount number 2. Number 1 is on the other side with Arkel mounts. I am getting geared up for trans Canada ride. I had a stroke in 2017 that took out a large portion of my balance so everything attached to the trike has to strong and stable. This mounts is super strong and incredibly stable. Well done Terracycle
Very solidly made, fits the 5.5.9 perfectly. It would be nice if the support-to-sidebar connection was articulated in such a way as to allow the angled part of the support to be swung forward. Difficult to put into words, but if I make the support bar part that hangs down, run parallel to the seat (when viewed from the side), then the sidebar points inward. So the support bar needs to hang vertically, which means the sidebar ends up further back behind the seat.
Install was easy on a Catrike Trail. Adjustments fine for seaside bag. Good steering clearance. Quality materials, finish and hardware.
To note: I installed one on an ICE trike. That one served well for a few years, but, due to geometry, was NOT transferable to the Trail.
The side mount kit from T-Cycle is very nice. Sturdy and Tight. My bag stays in place the whole ride. After the first ride with my side bag I got caught in the rain. I quickly transferred my phone to the bag and zipped it closed. My phone stayed dry! I just love having certain items within my reach. Great accessory for my Catrike Expedition.
This is a quality product that works as expected and is easy to install. All the surfaces are nicely machined, producing a very clean look, which makes this add-on look like it was factory intended.
There is plenty of adjustability for most needs, letting you set fore, aft, and up or down positions without a hassle. I added a thin piece of rubber at the contact points to protect my Catrikes finish. I made it from an old inner tube.
I'm very pleased with it. However, I have two suggestions. First, the side bar should be a little longer for the folding Catrike. I have to reach back to open my bag. Second, the bar should not be smooth. It should have a rough surface, so grips won't slip so easily. I had to wrap the bar with handlebar tape to get a better grip.
My wife and I recently bought e-Catrike 5-5-9s. We had vintage Cannondale handlebar bag systems that had migrated from those diamond frame bikes to the seatbacks on our Tour Easy recumbents. This mount kit will allow us to keep on using that system on the trikes. Being unsure about the mounting process I was hesitant to order the mount kit, but decided to take the chance. The instructions that came with the kit were excellent. I'd suggest putting those instructions on-line, that would have made the decision process no problem. I had some difficulty installing the seat back clamps, struggling with the limited work space. Then I had a palm-to-forehead moment and simply folded the seat down and had no further issue. By then I was an expert and installed the kit on the second trike in a matter of minutes.
The two screws in the middle of the clamp were too short to reattach. Fortunately, I had other screws, which I were able to use to tighten the clamp to complete the installation of this kit!
The instructions were clear and thorough, the installation was very straightforward. I got a two-sided mount for my Catrike Dumont, it fits very well, there are a lot of adjustments to make sure the mount and the bag don't get in the way of anything. Very solid once all bolts are tight.
Don’t have the tools and mechanical ability STOP and have a professional perform the install.
Application Catrike Dumont w Bafang 750
BBS02 pedal assist = battery on right side of frame behind the seat [no space for behind the seat installation]. The installation focused on behind the seat NOT Under the Seat. No supporting photos for this application in the installation instructions.
There is very limited space for installation it is challenging to install the 2 mounting brackets, both should be applied, and need to be at 90 degrees to the frame horizontally. The clearance between the drive chain and mounting brackets is ~ 1” the 4 screws for each bracket need to be highly torqued if not sagging can occur = contact with the drive chain. Of the 4 mounting screws 2 are shorter examining the bracket the two shorter are for outboard and 2 longer are for inboard where there is great thickness of material in the bracket. Be sure to observe marks on mounting bracket 1” applied to frame and 7/8” to the T Cycle tube important!
I made a single wrap of electric tape on the trike frame so not to damage the paint. Task is more friendly if the trike is elevated with trike stand or 5 gallon bucket underneath each wheel apply brakes. Unclipping seat connections and the seat back cam over lock will assist with the task for the install.
Be prepared to spend a bit more time on this task because you should not make final screw torque until you get the bag on the bracket to check level and clearance with the front wheel.
For the price point there should be complete installation installation for under-seat application. The final application is great to have however the installation is challenging especially with installation instructions provided.
Took a long time to receive and then the part didn’t fit. Misleading. Ugh. Hopefully I won’t have to pay a restocking fee. Shipping alone breaks the bank. I’m waiting on a how to return email. This is why it’s difficult not to buy everything from Amazon.
I love the seat side mounts. They hold the bags right where I need access to them. The owner and staff are excellent people to work with and I would recommend wholeheartedly.
This is not what you had pictured. It does not adjust in and out as advertised and rests much higher on the trike, about arm high. It works for what I intended it for but not what was advertised
Very high quality yet much cheaper than other brands! Requires a bit of patience to get it adjusted precisely but once tightened down, it is extremely solid and does not move at all! I do wish the side bars were a few inches longer to accommodate more items. I love this very functional accessory and highly recommend it!
The item was easy to setup and install. Your service was quick, efficient and professional. I received my order in a few days. Really great service. Thank You, I will definitely recommend you to my trike buddies.
