Many bikes and trikes are equipped from the factory with 170mm or 175mm cranks. These are great for the long-legged or those of us with super human kneecaps, but for most people, they are just too long. Easy Knees Crank shorteners allow you to effectively shorten your crank arm length and experiment to find out how much shorter works for you. Crank shorteners can also be used to accomodate legs of different lengths.
If your legs are the same length, but maybe your knees aren't as good as they used to be, a shorter crank arm can help alleviate some of the strain.
These crank shorteners are designed for use by adults and for use with modern cranks with curvy, shaped arms. The unique design of the side anchors makes them both very strong and able to handle any crank size and shape, even really wide or really curved ones. The side anchors that lock to the crank are super heavy duty to handle adult pedaling loads and have a very wide (22 to 44mm) adjustment range. The adjustment is both simple and very positive. This feature is what drove us to make crank shorteners. No other crank shortener can handle the range of crankarms or pedalling forces that these can.

I’ve had 8 knee operations and very poor ROM I thought what the heck can I lose! I bought this gizmo installed it on a bike I bought on a whim. I made two adjustments raised the seat and lowered the pedal one hole. I was able to ride a bike for the first time in 35+years! It’s -35c here in Canada today I rode my bike in the living room and cried! I can ride a bike again! I am not stuck walking like an old 60 year old anymore! I can ride a bike again!!! Background: me-65yo male. 6’1” 29-30” inseam. Never have issues with seat comfort, but been having knee issues (w/both), so l suspected a shorter crank arm wb the answer. LBS put them on(22/36 Surly crank-175mm-Trek Farley 5 fatbike). So far, excellent. A little getting used to the new range of motion. We did the 25mm slot, so I’m guessing this made it a 150mm crank arm. With this and my other bikes, the stiffening and pain would come usually toward the end of a ride and linger for awhile. This bike(l assume) wb the most extreme situation, considering the Q-factor also. I have 5 bikes, so this seems to be a great value! I’m from Mn, and we have Appleman bikes here, but the custom cranks wb $750-800. They obviously don’t add to the look of the bike, but if l can ride my bikes pain-free, I’m happy.
Truly a gift!
The cranks have allowed my wife with a knee replacement to get back on her bike. Over time, we have added to the length. Hopefully over time she may even get back to the full crank, but for now the cranks have been truly liberating!
Hardware miss match
The hardware for the left and right is different. Button head allen heads on one and hex heads on the other. Black spacers on one and silver spacers on the other. I will have to change the screws or carry an extra tool. Quality control?
Hi Michael, The two setups are due to the different clearances the crank shorteners encounter. Ideally, we'd use only screws that you can adjust with an Allen key, but the right shortener often passes quite close to the chainring, which would make it awfully difficult to get an Allen wrench in there. Clearance issues with more specialty chainrings necessitated different bolts for the optional tower spacers. To keep the Left and Right distinct, we use different colored spacers so that they don't get accidentally mixed up. Sorry for the confusion there. Part of the design was to accommodate as many crank/chainring combinations as we could with one set of hardware. That's why those tower spacers are optional, as they aren't needed in every case.
