Finally! High quality chaintube at a decent price. Super slippery, sound deadening, very durable, abrasion and and solvent resistant chain tube. We have this tube custom made for us specifically for chain tubes. 1/2 inch ID, 5/8 inch OD. For your convenience, we sell it in 4in (10cm) increments up to 4ft (120cm) long. If desired, we can flare the ends with our special heat flaring process that thickens as well as flares.
FAQ
1. What's so different about this chaintube?
We have our chaintube specially made for us from a plastic that has exactly the properties you need; it's really slippery, it's really tough, and it's nicely quiet.
2. Is it Teflon?
No. There are several kinds of slippery plastic, Teflon is only one kind. We feel the material we use is better in several ways. Teflon actually has rather poor physical properties, and it's only made into tubing for chemical processing applications. It's always combined with other, harder plastics to make tubing. It's not made in black, and the things it's combined with to improve it's properties are hard, so actual Teflon tubing is noisy. The chaintubes tubes you see that say they are Teflon are actually something else. What else, we're not sure. It's not all the same. We tested several kinds of actual Teflon tubing and it just didn't work well.
3. How much should I get?
That depends. We recommend keeping chaintubes short and only covering the chain where it needs to be covered. If your mounts aren't in a convenient place for that, we make Floating Chaintube Mounts that can solve that 99% of the time.
4. Why flaring?
A substantial fraction of the noise of a chaintube can come from the chain bumping against the entrance of the chaintube and then bumping out of the exit end of the chaintube. Flaring reduces this noise.

Sold in 4in (10cm) increments, so measure your bike or trike and choose the closest size. We recommend going shorter rather than longer unless you have a strong reason to go longer.
We make Floating Chaintube Holders if you need a good way to mount them. The mount can contribute significantly to the noise and friction in a chaintube. When the chaintube is allowed to float, it makes the minimum amount of contact with the chain, keeping things smooth and quiet.

We flare the ends with a heat process, you can do your own flaring with a heat gun or by forming with a hot conical shape. The heat process we use thickens the end and flares it at the same time.
If possible, it's easiest to drop the chain down through the chaintube while installing it. A piece of wire works well also.
Take care not to twist the chain while it goes through the chaintube. This isn't an issue with tubes shorter than about 20in (50cm), it is more of a possibility with really long runs.
Make sure the power side chain isn't being deflected by your chaintube. You want the power side chaintube to run straight and not push on the chain. On the return side, you have more leeway, but it's still best to keep things as straight as possible.
For use on any bike or trike that needs something to cover or control the chain past certain areas, or to keep your legs clean near the chainrings.
Thank you so much for making these long chaintubes. I was constantly getting grease on my leg from the chain. All I can say is shame on Catrike for not installing longer chainstubes on their trikes to start with. The longer chaintubes even helped to quieten down the chain noise. I am very happy with the longer chaintubes. They make my Catrike Villager look so much better. I installed one tube on the top and one tube on the bottom. Installation only took about twenty minutes.
The tubes are working great so far without any issues. My friend saw mine and he has now ordered one for his Villager as well. No more greasy leg!
I'm trying to duplicate the original ICE tubing arrangement. The inside diameter of the Terracycle tubes is slightly larger (2mm) than the original ICE tubes, which makes this current arrangement smoother and quieter than the original ICE tubing setup. I'm quite pleased with the results!
I have an HP Velotechnik Scorpion Enduro 2020 with 20,000 miles on it. The OEM chain tube started showing wear and even had some damaged areas. The OEM tube was 7/16" I.D. x 9/16" O.D., it just didn't seem very robust. HP did however have a very clever design holding the drive side chain tubes in line with the chain idler. They had a formed wire tube holder (black ones in the photos) that were secured to the chain tubes and the other end was located over the boss where the chain idler attached (basically a floating design). Unfortunately I was unable to use the OEM formed wire chain tube holder due to the new chain tube being larger at 5/8" O.D and the flared ends are even larger. Not a problem, I purchased some 10 gauge stainless steel wire and custom formed my own holders to replicate the HP formed wire holders (silver ones in the photos). In addition I purchased 5/8" tube clamps encapsulated in rubber which are attached to the other end of the new formed wire holder. The drive side of the chain is perfectly aligned with the chain idler, and I am really impressed with the quality of the new chain tubes, especially the formed ends. Very quiet and seem very robust, should have many more pleasurable miles of riding. Thank you for another great product as usual!
Easy to install. Just have to figure out the best place to put it. Once installed the chain rides smooth and quite. The chain tube is more solid than the one that came with the trike.
This was just what I needed to modify the drive train on my HPV Grasshopper (upper tube in the photo). It's as the perfect length to keep the chain off the frame and my leg. It was nice not having to flare the tube myself.
I used the chaintube to control the chain as it passed under the rear frame support while doing a restomod on my vintage masa Slingshot.
TerraCycle idlers and chaintubes are indispensable on long recumbent trikes like the Masa, which is almost 8 feet long!

I've been looking for a trike since balance issues forced me to give up my bike. I was only able to find one dealer in Las Vegas that handled recumbent trikes and his limited stock were all too low to the ground for me. I didn't want to order one without trying to see if I could get up from the seat (I'll be 83 in a couple of weeks). I finally found a used one locally that I was able to get in and out of, but it needed some work. I changed the brakes, lowered the gear ratio and made new holders for water bottles and a pump. After several attempts to design my own chain ring tube, I ran across your ad and purchased the tube. I wasn't sure if your mount would work on my trike, so I opted to design one of my own. I haven't been able to put in a lot of miles, but I am happy with how the chain tube works.
Its such a simple change that I find it hard to believe the improvement it made. Before, the return side would flop, bounce, and rattle. This quieted it right down.
As a bonus, it seems the lowest cog on the derailleur was skipping from the chain bouncing and that, too, is smooth.
A little thing, but they all add up.
I have to admit it took me a while to figure out how to use this chain tube holder. My application had to keep the chain off my bike battery extension mount and at the same time allow me to fold my Ice adventure trike. Hopefully the picture is clear enough, chain tube holder is covered with talc because of the gloves I used. Owners of Ice adventures might consider using the 12 inch tube instead of the 8 that I used but I'm really happy with my results.
This tube replaces the lower chain tube on my ICE Sprint. The original was smaller in diameter and caused some friction in the drive train. My new tube is straight and clean and a big improvement.
This new chain tube replaced a damaged chain tube on a TerraTrike Rambler All Terrain. I Secured the chain exit end of that tube with a custom wood spacer to keep the chain aligned with the drive gear.
This is an elegant, simple to implement solution to a problem that all trikes encounter: chain slap over the cruciform. I sent an email inquiring about buying a chain tube alone, explaining my proposed solve (a long zip ties on either side of the cruciform), and the person who replied mentioned this as an option. It works flawlessly.
Pictures include the Return Idler, Catrike Completer Kit, additional 12" chain tube and floating tube bracket. All work perfectly and were easily installed. Greatly reduced the noise on my 2022 Catrike Expedition. Highly recommend this upgrade.
These are the best chain tubes that I have ever seen and used. They are durable and quiet. The flanges make them stable and reduce any friction normally caused by the chain entering the tube.
Worked well. I ordered one piece too long so I cut and taped it together (preserving the flared ends), but that's fine. Shipping to Canada sure was expensive though!
The chain tubes on my catlike villager were worn out. I attempted to secure replacements and didn't find them. I also have a Terra Trike that has chain tubes so I sourced them from Terra Trike.
They are very high quality and work better on the Catrike than what I had.
Additionally, Terracycle is extremely easy to order from and the parts arrive in great condition and within a sort time - Great Job!

All of the products I've acquired to date have solved my issues with my recumbent.
I provided a detailed description already for the floating chain tube holder and the flared tubing.
No comment in my view is needed for the chain and quick link connectors as the manufacturer is separate from your innovations.
Year 2000 P-38 Lightning recumbent; old model rear Odyssey A-Brake; I broke the chain stay mounting boss; capped both bosses and replaced with a rear Shimano side pull caliper brake (Shimano BR-R451 FR) mounted between the chain stays on the cross tube just in front of the rear wheel. Thereafter, the chain was making contact with the dual pivot calipers creating a safety issue along with the additional very irritating noise.
Then I did sufficient research for a remedy and took a chance ordering a 10" flared chain tube along with a floating chain tube holder mounting it on the seat stay just under and just behind the seats mounting tube which is bolted to the frame of the recumbent. PROBLEM SOLVED. THANK YOU!!! PS: My recumbent is very quiet now compared to even the original set-up.
