The Catrike Clamp-On Return Idler Kit comes with a return side idler (either Sport or Elite) and, like the power, a Clamp-On Idler Mount, all necessary chain keeper hardware needed to float a return idler anywhere on a Catrike that you'd like. Most people put their floating return idler just in front of the right side frame tube. Depending on boom position and chainring sizes, the idler can handle the chain going over or under. It can take some serious finagling to get just right, but for those people looking to eliminate chaintube, this kit can be a big help.
Catrike Returm Idler Kit - Another TC winner!
My 2006 Catrike "Speed" recumbent trike sports the subject idler and no chain tubes! My 2014 Catrike "700" recumbent trike is similarly equipped. Both trikes dirvetrains operate as quietly as a stealth aircraft. Thanks, TC, for providing the cycling community with top quality products. You have no equals regarding performance, reliability and quality of products. Clonewheeler aka Kim Kalen
Item is not usable on my Expedition. Cannot be mounted in front of the crossbar due to the length of the gusset, and not behind the crossbar due to interference with the tie rod. Are there pictures for of successful installations? Or could it be traded for the “completer kit”?
Solved my chain issue on my GTS
I bought a bunch of parts from TerraCycle they company and parts they produce are top notch. This idler solved the issue where my 11 speed chain would try to walk up the next gear when pushing the trike backwards. The location of the factory idler is way to close and was a stationary idler. Not only did this solve the problem I was having and it was easy to adjust when I switched out to a NuVinci CVT hub I purchased a return side floating idler which helped me eliminate the chain tube and associated chain friction. I will be back.
