Easy Knees Crank Shortener (Each)

Does not work with Morse Taper Pedals

Many bikes and trikes are equipped from the factory with 170mm or 175mm cranks.  These are great for the long-legged or those of us with super human kneecaps, but for most people, they are just too long.   Easy Knees Crank shorteners allow you to effectively shorten your crank arm length and experiment to find out how much shorter works for you.  Crank shorteners can also be used to accomodate legs of different lengths.

If your legs are the same length, but maybe your knees aren't as good as they used to be, a shorter crank arm can help alleviate some of the strain.

These crank shorteners are designed for use by adults and for use with modern cranks with curvy, shaped arms.  The unique design of the side anchors makes them both very strong and able to handle any crank size and shape, even really wide or really curved ones. The side anchors that lock to the crank are super heavy duty to handle adult pedaling loads and have a very wide (22 to 44mm) adjustment range. The adjustment is both simple and very positive.  This feature is what drove us to make crank shorteners. No other crank shortener can handle the range of crankarms or pedalling forces that these can.

If you have one bad knee or have limited range of motion in just one leg, check out our Easy Knees Pedal Swing.  It is designed to help you find the right pedal stroke for each leg instead of compromising on a single adjustment that doesn't truly fit either leg. With a pedal swing, even though both legs are the same length, they can each have different range of motion.

Black anodized and laser marked. Stainless crank attachment bolts are made in house.

Truly a gift!

The cranks have allowed my wife with a knee replacement to get back on her bike. Over time, we have added to the length. Hopefully over time she may even get back to the full crank, but for now the cranks have been truly liberating!

Hardware miss match

The hardware for the left and right is different. Button head allen heads on one and hex heads on the other. Black spacers on one and silver spacers on the other. I will have to change the screws or carry an extra tool. Quality control?

T-Cycle

Hi Michael, The two setups are due to the different clearances the crank shorteners encounter. Ideally, we'd use only screws that you can adjust with an Allen key, but the right shortener often passes quite close to the chainring, which would make it awfully difficult to get an Allen wrench in there. Clearance issues with more specialty chainrings necessitated different bolts for the optional tower spacers. To keep the Left and Right distinct, we use different colored spacers so that they don't get accidentally mixed up. Sorry for the confusion there. Part of the design was to accommodate as many crank/chainring combinations as we could with one set of hardware. That's why those tower spacers are optional, as they aren't needed in every case.

Not a good experience

It started with the order. I wanted a pair. I got two of the same side. Finally, I got a L and a R. They didn't match. Not a big thing I guess but not very professional, The adjusting bolts were different from one side to the other. Different wrenches required. I installed both sides and went for a ride. The R side was loose. I adjusted and tightened and rode again. It took me six or seven tries to finally get it to stay tight. My other comment is that they are bulky. Not a nice look. The good news is my knees feel better.

So happy!

Have been trying to figure out how to solve this problem with my adult daughter's e-trike for 2 years. Using blocks on the peddles was a poor solution to accommodate her short legs. Thanks for these crank shorteners! Wish all the bike shops we visited knew about them - Finally checked with Oregon Adaptive Sports for its recommendation. Terra Cycle is the answer!!! Thank You.
