1. How do these work?
These cable guides work by clamping on to your handlebar mast. They have 4 cable housing slots and a computer wire slot. They are designed to nicely organize your cable housing on your handlebar mast.
2. How do you install them?
The guides fit on handlebar masts with at least one smooth end. Usually, they are installed by sliding them up from the bottom after removing the mast to stem collar clamp. They can also be installed from the top if you have a removable top stem. If you are retrofitting them to a bike with existing cabling, you will want to arrange the cable housing in their slots before sliding the guide up the mast. To do that, temporarily remove the 4mm Allen head bolt from the guide and slip the housing through the gap. It is sized for this purpose.
3. I have cable stops now. Can I replace them with these?
Unfortunately, probably not. These guides are designed for smooth handlebar masts. If you have welded on stops, it's unlikely you can get the two to work together.
4. How do I know which size to get?
I don't know the OD of my handlebar mast. Most older bikes have 1-1/8 inch (28.6mm) OD handlebar masts. Some newer bikes have 1-1/4 inch (31.8mm) OD masts.

- Designed to classily organize your handlebar cables, these guides let you do away with wraps and tape on your mast. They can be positioned wherever you want them and let you manage 4 cable housings and a computer wire. These precision machined guides cleanly and elegantly keep your cables under control and looking nice.
- They are available in the two most common mast sizes: 1-1/8 and 1-1/4 inches (28.6 and 31.8mm). You can clamp them anywhere on your mast as long as it is straight and smooth, as most masts are. If you have an older mast with welded on cable stops, you will probably have to stick with the old guides or upgrade to a new mast.
- CNC machined from 6061-T6 aluminum, black anodized and laser marked. The guides have two sets of two slots for housing, with a smaller computer wire slot in between. A single 4mm stainless bolt clamps them securely to your mast. They can be repositioned up and down and front or back as long as the mast is not curving there.
- Height is 3/8 inch (9.5mm). The Allen wrench for the clamp bolt is 3mm.
- Tools Required: 3mm Allen wrench for the clamp bolts on the guides; other tools, like a 5mm Allen wrench, may be required for things like the mast to stem collar clamp.
- If you are retrofitting them to a bike with existing cabling, you will want to arrange the cable housing in their slots before sliding the guide up the mast. To do that, temporarily remove the 4mm Allen head bolt from the guide and slip the housing through the gap. It is sized for this purpose.
- The guides are usually installed by sliding them up from the bottom after removing the mast to stem collar clamp. They can also be installed from the top if you have a removable top stem.
- Once the guides are basically in place, sit on the bike and turn the handlebars side to side to check the drape of the cables. The guides can be adjusted up and down to tweak how the cables flex.
- When everything is in place, tighten the clamp bolts on the guides to lock them in place.
- All above seat steered bikes with smooth 1-1/8 or 1-1/4 inch handlebar masts. While it is possible to spread the guides open a bit to get them around curves in the mast, it is not recommended that you clamp them on a curving part of the mast. They are precision machined and will not fit right on curving sections.

You have to disconnect the cables and remove the protective ends on the cable housings to install this guide. Then you of course have to put it all back together again and adjust the shifting and the brakes. This was a lot more work than I anticipated. It works ok and looks nicer that the velcro straps my Lightning R84 came with. It should be easy to redesign this so the installation is not so much work.
